Traveling to Jerusalem

Greetings

We spent a fair amount of today on the bus as we traveled from the Sea of Galilee in the northern part of Israel to Jericho and Bethlehem  in the central part of Israel.  Some of today's highlights included the following

The Mount of  Temptations - Located just outside of Jericho this is where Christ was tempted for 40 days and 40 nights by the devil as he was traveling on his way to Jerusalem.  It is truly desert like in this eastern extreme of Israel that butts up to the border of Jordan.  Hope to share a picture with you at the bottom.

We visited Bethlehem, the site of the birthplace of Jesus Christ.   There we saw the Church of the Nativity which is built over the top of the stable in which Christ was born.   Unfortunately, we got rushed through as they were preparing for a mass so did not have much time to view, reflect and pray.   The good news is that we got to attend mass in English in a small side chapel that was amazing for its simplicity.   I have a picture I hope to share with you of this chapel.  It had four benches on each side in a stone chapel; very small but beautiful.

The Church of the Nativity also had a beautiful stained glass of the Holy Family.   Will try to include a picture as well.

We are having challenges with our wi-fi today so not sure if there will be pictures today or not.  If not able to include with this blog I would encourage you to go to my wife's Facebook page as she has gobs of pictures.

Tomorrow we will be in Jerusalem for what promises to be an intense day as we go to the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Via Dolorosa (The Way of The Cross/following Christ's steps as he bore the cross to Calvary) and the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre built over the site of his burial.

Given that Christ suffered the ultimate sacrifice of his life I would like for our intention tomorrow to be for all others that have suffered persecution and death (martyred) for their faith and for those still facing persecution today.

God bless you all!
